Dr. Allen is in his element when he is outdoors. On the weekend you'll find him creating shade structures to protect his tropical trees in his backyard or on a nice long bike ride. When he isn't busy fishing, biking, or hiking, he's probably reading C.S. Lewis, Brian McClellan, Calvin and Hobbes, or the latest Brandon Sanderson book.
According to his wife, Dr. Elizabeth, there's no more room on the bookshelves for any more books - so that's what the top shelf of the pantry is for! Over the past few years, he has developed an interest in gardening and enjoys the challenge of transforming the desert into an oasis. If you visit the office at just the right time, you might get to go home with some homegrown tomatoes, figs, pluots, apricots, bananas, and mangoes!
Despite being from Colorado, Dr. Elizabeth did not grow up embracing the great outdoors. Dr. Allen had to carefully plan outdoorsy dates for them that still involved access to running water. Over time, she developed a love of exploring the numerous trails in Arizona and eagerly looks forward to their summer camping trips in Flagstaff. Her designated corner of the bookshelf is dedicated to Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and oil painting tutorials.
She adores gardening, cooking, and trying new recipes that use their homegrown produce. For several years, she has tutored elementary school children; it has been a privilege for her to be a part of a child's increase in fundamental skills and self-esteem.
