Unlike CPAP machines, oral appliances are compact, portable, and don't involve masks or tubes, providing a more comfortable and less intrusive experience.
One of the main advantages of oral appliance therapy is the higher compliance rate compared to CPAP. Many patients find it easier to adapt to wearing a custom-fitted oral appliance, leading to increased long-term usage and treatment success.
Oral appliances are virtually silent, eliminating the noise associated with CPAP machines. They are discreet and convenient for travel, allowing you to maintain your sleep therapy routine wherever you go.
Anyone who cannot tolerate a traditional CPAP benefits from the non-obtrusive oral sleep appliance. It is small and fits within the mouth like a night guard. There is no tubing or attachments to the head. This works better for individuals who simply cannot tolerate the CPAP, individuals with claustrophobia, or veterans who cannot tolerate the noise of the CPAP. Not only will better sleep mean for a greater quality of life for the patient with sleep apnea, but bed sharing partners report increased happiness since snoring is eliminated - they get better rest too!
We begin with a sleep apnea consultation with Dr. Allen Ewell at Dentistry of Arizona in Surprise. We will evaluate risk factors, perform non-invasive and simple tests on your airway, and set up an at-home evaluation. This process is covered by medical insurance.
Before we create your oral appliance, we’ll coordinate a simple at-home sleep evaluation. This helps us understand how your breathing is affected during sleep and pinpoint the best approach for keeping your airway open throughout the night. Once we’ve reviewed the results, we’ll custom design an appliance that supports better airflow and more restful sleep.
Using information from your consultation and sleep study, we will take impressions or scans to make your custom appliance.
We will see you periodically to make sure your appliance is comfortable and is resolving your sleep apnea.
If you answered 'Yes' to 2 or more of these questions, you may have sleep apnea.
